In 2021 the zoo announced that, due to an “error”, a cub born in 2018 (Hertha) had a brother and sister as parents (Volodya and Tonja). When the parents arrived in Germany in 2013 concerns were raised, and rejected by the zoo, that they were siblings. A number of cubs born to the pair before Hertha did not survive.
